The entire image stabilization system has been updated with a high-precision image stabilization unit, an advanced gyroscope sensor and an optimized image stabilization algorithm. Camera shake is precisely detected and corrected by the image stabilization unit, significantly expanding the variety of shooting situations in which reliable stabilization can be achieved. The body alone provides 8 step stabilizationa first in the α series. [1] Yaw [2] Roll [3] Pitch
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting responds to changing conditions
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting takes advantage of the control of a precision in-body image stabilization system, capturing up to 16 pixel-shifted images for composite processing on a computer for stunning resolution in a single image.. With the latest version of Imaging Edge Desktop™ software, small pixel-level movements are detected and corrected automatically.
Choice of RAW image size and quality
Lossless RAW image compression enables high quality image capture in continuous bursts, with a choice of three lossless compressed image sizes. The M and S sizes have the same number of pixels (26M/15M) for shooting in full-frame or APS-C mode, so that the angle-of-view switching between full frame and APS-C in the same scene can be seamless and the image resolution is the same stay awake.
Precise and versatile external flash control
If the Sony external flash unitWhen compatible with the camera's auto white balance function, the white balance is adjusted to produce natural skin tones on the face based on the balance between flash output and ambient lighting. Flash control also works in tandem with face detection so that the flash level on the subject is optimal.
Real-time Recognition AF for humans
With the innovative AI processing unit, the α7R V can use Real-time Recognition AF to accurately recognize people's movements, increasing about 60% in recognizing the human eyecompared to the α7R IV. Human pose estimation technology studies human shapes and poses to recognize not only the eyes, but also body and head positions with high precision so that they can lock on and track subjects who are not facing the camera or wearing a mask.
A faster and more precise AF system
The high processing capabilities of the new BIONZ XR engine and updated algorithms result in significant AF performance improvements, which take advantage of the abundant data generated by the image sensor and high-density wide-area AF system. Up to 693 phase detection points cover approx. 79% of the image area. The wider AF area also allows for more flexibility in framing, for example when shooting portraits in a vertical orientation. High-precision AF is achieved down to low-light levels of up to EV -4.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens).
Real-time Recognition AF for a wider variety of subjects
In addition to people, animals and birds, the camera can now recognize insects, cars, trains and airplanes, making it even more flexible and reliable for stills and movie shooting. More and more bird species are recognized, and animal identification is expanded to include grass-eating animals and small animals other than dogs, cats and animals with similar characteristics, with a higher precision of up to 40%.
Continuous shooting
Even with the α7R V's high resolution, up to 10 fps continuous shooting with full tracking AF/AE is possible with a mechanical shutter. This level of tracking speed and reliability makes it easy to capture the most photogenic moments and expressions even when the subject is moving. Up to 583 compressed RAW images can be shot continuously at 10 fps.
Full-time DMF
When shooting stills with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, the lens focus ring can be rotated to switch to manual focus mode at any time. This makes it easy to return focus to the original subject if the AF switches to a different subject, for example by simply rotating the focus ring.
Focus bracketing
The α7R V will take up to 299 pictures automatically with the focus point shifted successively using the interval and sequence you specify. After that, the best images can be selected from the sequence, or a computer application can combine the focus bracket images to create a focus-stacked composite with a deep synthesized depth of field that takes advantage of the camera's high resolution.

The XAVC HS format enables high-resolution 8K 24p (25p) movie recordingin-camera with efficient HEVC/H.265 compression, bringing out the best in Sony lenses and taking full advantage of the resolution potential provided by the sensor and full-pixel readout. Even the finest subject details can be captured lifelike. The ability to reframe 8K footage in post-production for 4K delivery also provides invaluable flexibility in editing.
Stunning 4K movie recording
Full-frame and Super 35mm formats selectable for 4K movie recording, as well as 4K 60p (50p) recording. Full pixel readout in Super 35mm mode without the need for pixel binning makes 2.6x oversampling possible for 4K movies. XAVC SI (All-Intra), or XAVC HS formats are supported, as well as 10 bit 4:2:2 color sampling.
16 bit RAW output for more flexible editing
Responding to the increasing demand for RAW recording capabilities, the α7R V provides 16-bit RAW output to external recordersvia HDMI cable. Full-frame 3848 x 2168 (16:9 aspect ratio) output available with a choice of frame rate levels. RAW output via HDMI is also possible while recording XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, or XAVC SI 4K to internal card media. Proxy recording is also available.
Real-time tracking for movies
Thanks to significant improvements in subject recognition, the camera can perform Real-time Tracking more reliably, which tracks a specific subject with precise focus, including focusing on the subject's eyes. Subject recognition is now possible in both movie recording and still photography for fast, stable focusing during capture. Even when subject recognition is turned off, touch operation allows subjects to be found and tracked by color, pattern (luminance), and distance (depth).
